WealthSimple | "The Futurists"

Exploring Wealthsimple's 2025-2026 The Futurists Campaign - TV, Social, & Outdoor

Background

Description

Wealthsimple is a Toronto-based Canadian fintech company (founded 2014) offering commission-free investing, managed portfolios, high-interest savings, trading, crypto, and more via it's app/platform.

Brand

The core brand is Wealthsimple (includes Wealthsimple Invest, Trade, Cash, Tax, etc.). No major sub-brands highlighted in campaign.

Market Segment

WealthSimple provides "digital-first" investing for Canadians, especially younger investors (millennials and Gen Z) seeking low-fee, accessible financial freedom.

Competitive Set

WealthSimple competes with Questrade, RBC Direct Investing, TD Direct Investing, and other global fintechs like Robinhood.

Key Financial Indicators

Assets under administration reached over $100 billion in 2025 (doubled from $50 billion in 2024), three years ahead of schedule (Wealthsimple, 2025a; The Globe and Mail, 2025).

Profitable since 2024 and continuing in 2025, with a $750 million funding round at $10 billion valuation in October 2025 (Wealthsimple, 2025b).

Situational Appraisal

Overarching brand strategy
The campaign shows real people talking honestly about what tomorrow might look like. This helps build trust and makes the brand feel more relatable instead of corporate.
Target Market
Aimed at modern Canadians who think about money in real life. People dealing with uncertainty but staying optimistic. They want security and confidence when planning ahead.
Difference From Competitive Set
Uses real unscripted people (allegedly) sharing their actual thoughts on the future. It feels more human and true to how people really invest / think about money.
Consistency
Campain is consistent between all classifications. Some still media simple looks like screenshots from video.
Techniques and Principals
  • Uses humor and to talk about big topics (personal finance)
  • Shows real people and their predictions and concerns (emotion)
  • Avoids a fake display of perfection to seem more approachable / non-judgemental
  • Storytelling and encouraging viewers to think about their own persuits
  • The forced quirkiness is dangerously close to looking disingenuous

SWOT Analysis

Strengths
  • Authentic Human Stories
  • Direct Targets Millenial / Gen Z
  • Use of Humor, Emotion, and Narrative Style
Weaknesses
  • Narrative Style may be a turn-off to traditional consumers
  • Possible Vampire-Effect from deeply involved storytelling
Opportunities
  • Relationship building with younger generations and lighthearted older generations
  • Direct attention to other offered services
Threats
  • Some consumers might feel like this style is unserious and out of touch with the state of the market
  • Silly style might feel disingenuous to some

Recommendations

This campaign hits its goals by using real human stories to build trust and distinguish Wealthsimple from other fintech corporations. The style feels authentic with it's use of humor, emotion, and narrative style (specifically for younger demographics).

But there are inherent risks in this style. Traditional consumers who want straight facts might be turned-off by this approach. There is a risk that this campaign may feel out of touch or patronising.

QR Codes in the ads could take people to free tools, tips, and simple guides on investing. Adding QR codes is a great way to acheive higher engagement, with QR journeys seeing 37% average click-through rate (Uniqode, 2025). A QR Code is also a call to action.
Give people a chance to share their own stories, aspirations, or concerns. This drives engagement and helps start a relationship with future customers.

Point more attention to other services and encourage the public to try other products that Wealthsimple offers.
